15 reasons why I think Facebook rocks!

I currently use my Facebook to stay connected! Its my very own customised newspaper with a window in to the lives of friends and family all over the world. There are many reason why I use Facebook in this way to stay connected and I also think there are many benefits for businesses but here are some of my personal reasons why I love Facebook.

Facebook for me

  • Clean and simple layouts -Since the big layout redesign the FB interface continues to be visually more appealing and easier to use
  • Real names and real people
  • Blast from the past -One of the key benifits is being able to connect with people that you have lost contact over the years.
  • Groups – Join like minded people
  • Vanity – There is a bit of a show-off in us all
  • View Wall-to-wall
  • Photo albums and Tagging pictures to share your visual journey with others
  • De-tagging – beneficial for those pictures you wish never made it on to the web!
  • Status Updates, Mini-feed – Daily friends update
  • Stay connected with Friends and Family all over the world
  • Never forget peoples birthdays – This has saved my bacon a few times
  • Easy to find out and manage events
  • Voyeurism/Stalking – don’t deny it!
  • Do your homework – If your going to a dinner with friends who have invited other friends you can put a face to the name even before you meet, or a friend tries to set you up on a blind date… save the embarrassment and check their profile!
  • The ‘LIKE’ button – I like the like button. You can also see which of your fiends like the same things you do for example; I ‘liked’ the cheerleading page on FB and found and old friend from the US and reconnected.

3 reasons why I love Facebook for Business

  • Easy to share information – Remember the first rule of social media is to be where your customers are. Building your company brand on Facebook makes it easier for comsumers to find you through key word searches. Facebook is a great alternative from your website or blog to share further information when driving traffic back from a micro blogging site with limited word count.
  • Groups & Fan Pages - Start a group or fan page for product, brand or business. Add basic information to the group or fan page such as links to company site, contact info, newsletter subscription information. You can also post upcoming events including webinars, conferences and other programs where you or someone from your company will be present. You must regularly and consistently update your group or fan page with news, promotions and helpful information.
  • Networks – Join networks relating to your business and comment and add value where possible.
  • VIDEO: Social Media Song: Crazy Little Thing The Web

I almost wish I’d never come across this video as I’ve sadly been humming it to myself now for days. On reflection though this is actually very funny with a tongue and cheek look at the world of social media. The comedian (day job; digital public relations consulting and presenting) is Pete Codella (@codella) who is just hilarious in this video. What Pete has done by creating this video has made him stand out from the crowd and propelled himself into the limelight. Enjoy!

Also available on iTunes as part of the Online PR Podcast Episode 006 by Pete Codella and Mark Polson of Codella Marketing and Code Greene, respectively
