In the beginning
Its finally here, my very own blog and another tick on the ‘things I want to achieve’ list for 2010.
As some of you may know I am very passionate about people and fell into this industry somewhat accidentally. I thought for my very first post I would like to give you a bit of background on how this all came to be….
What started off as a great way to meet new and interesting people online has marked the beginning of my love affair with the world of social media. I am passionate about people and fascinated by how this fast and buzzing industry has evolved and will continue to change the way we communicate with each other.
I was running a business from home at the age of 20 and found the ‘working from home life’ was very lonely. For someone that loved people the lack of daily interaction was warring on my sparkle and it was time for a change.
I started turning to the internet as a way to feel better connected to the outside world and found that there were people out there just like me. I used Facebook to keep up to date with my friends. Linkedin to stay in touch with people who I have meet professionally and Ecademy to build new and strong relationships with business owners and entrepreneurs.
Even though I lacked passion with the business I was running from home I was amazed by the evolution of social networking and how it had helped me and my business with the people that I had meet. I decided to throw in the towel and embark on a new chapter of my life and that is when I joined a large company to help set up their social media channels.
Intuit is a globally recognised software company, who designs solutions to help small businesses, run their business more efficiently. We started off by testing platforms to ascertain where our customers, prospects and evangelists were. We then started to test different campaigns from viral videos to viral vouchers, some worked and some where not so successful. After 6 months we were then ready to start incorporating social media into our strategy where we had some fantastically successful campaigns and a growing online network and presence.
Even though I enjoyed working for Intuit, I enjoyed social media more and found that the emphasis on growing this channel was not a priority for them at that time. I felt like I was working in my wax more than in my flame (See Penny Powers video about your wax and flame you can find me in the front row!) so I decide to move and take my network and fantastic experience with me.
…So here I am!
I have created this blog to help capture and share my social journey and the fantastic people that I meet along the way.
Enjoy
